Research Collaboration with the Vermont French-Canadian Genealogical Society

Research Collaboration with the Vermont French Canadian Genealogical Society We are pleased to announce a collaborative research agreement between the American-Canadian Genealogical Society in Manchester NH and the Vermont French-Canadian Genealogical Society in Burlington VT. This effort should help to break down your "brick walls” involving ancestors that migrated between New Hampshire, Vermont and Canada.  Research services are available through our organization at http://acgs.org/research/ and at the Vermont French Canadian Genealogical Society at http://www.vt-fcgs.org/research.html .  The Vermont Society has been very active in preserving Vermont Diocesan records.  Visit http://www.vt-fcgs.org/diocese_pres_vct27feb2004.html for more details.

BMS2000 Available at our library

Thanks to the generosity of one of our members, BMS2000, a great research aid for Quebec Province marriages, baptisms and burials is available free of charge to our members at the library.  The website contains the databases used to create many of the repertories offered by various Quebec genealogy societies.  For more information go to www.BMS2000.org

Our library is now featuring on-line access to AmericanAncestors.org, the web site of the New England Historic Genealogical Society. With access to thousands of databases, American Ancestors provides a rich resource for genealogy reseach. Of particular interest is the access to the Massachusetts Vital Records - 1841-1915. Please see http://www.americanancestors.org/databases/ for a complete listing of databases available.

Wireless Internet Access

We've recently made wireless internet access available to our patrons in the library.  Many of our members enjoy the convenience of combining both on-line and in-library research resources.  Our thanks to the computer committee for providing this feature.

Another Correction:

The transcriber entered Francois Pellerin dit Baron under BARON rather than PELLERIN.  It should be entered under PELLERIN.

 The transcriptions show Francois Pellerin's mother as Euphrosine Pelletier, where in fact, it should be Victoire Pelletier;

The transcriber shows Francois Pellerin's family as coming from St. Roch where in fact he was from Riviere-Ouelle;

The transcriber shows the bride Olive Leclerc's family as coming from Riviere-Ouelle whereas they were from St-Basile.

Source:  St-Basile Parish Registers, f. .25, M.4 in the Drouin database.

These errors were brought to light because of the better access to parish registers that is available today.  Our apologies to those who were mislead by these errors.  Our thanks to Lucie and Steven White for the corrections.

The American Canadian Genealogist

The American-Canadian Genealogist is the official quarterly journal of the American-Canadian Genealogical Society and a major benefit of membership in our society. Regular segments include letters to the editor, messages from the President and the Editor, Book Reviews, From Other Publications, Queries, New Members, Étoile d'Acadie, and our Readers' Forum. Visit our Genealogist web page to find out more about this great member benefit, and download a free sample issue. Back issues are available through our catalog.

Publications Department

Our Publications Department has released its 141st publication. Through the department’s tireless efforts, genealogists will benefit from the parish records that have been copied, transcribed, proofread and compiled into well organized repertories. We are releasing many New York repertoires with many hard to find records.

Please check our catalog page often for these new offerings.

We have embarked upon a project to go paperless when producing repertoires.  We are now copying church records using a digital camera.  No longer will we use paper copies to transcribe and proof read the records.  The project is progressing smoothly, although there are still a few 'bugs' to work out.

New Items in Our Catalog

The following new repertories have been added to our catalog:

RP137 St. Patrick, Albany, NY 4,379 Marriages August 1859 - June 2006 $95.00
RP138 St. Patrick, Albany, NY 12,800 Baptisms August 1858 - June 2006 - 2 vols. Hard Cover $115.00
RP139 St. Patrick, Albany, NY 4,000 Burials 1923 - 2006 $65.00
RP140 St. Lawrence, Troy, NY 1,370 Marr; 4,552 Bapt; 920 Burials Oct 1868 - Nov 1983 $85.00
RP141 Holy Trinity, Troy, NY 704 Marr; 1,974 Bapts; 949 Burials Nov 1908 - Jun 1998 $65.00

The big news is that some of our publications are now available on CD. These are in Adobe PDF format, and can be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 and above. The file can be easily searched, and individual pages can be printed. These are offered at substantial savings over the printed version.

Check our Catalog page for new additions!
